National Defense Committee Statement on Gainful Employment Deadline Extension by Education Department
The National Defense Committee released the following statement after the Department of Education announced an extension of the reporting deadline for its Gainful Employment and Financial Transparency regulations:
“The Department of Education has finally demonstrated some common sense by delaying the reporting deadline for its Gainful Employment and Financial Transparency rules. It should go further by tabling these biased regulations once and for all.
“The National Defense Committee has called on the Biden-Harris Department of Education for years to stop tipping the scales against career colleges, online programs, and other successful higher ed vendors that provide veterans, military members, and other non-traditional students with options that often better meet their learning needs. NDC commends Senators Tim Kaine (D-VA) and Roger Marshall (R-KA) and the bipartisan group of 18 senators who joined them for urging the Department to postpone these rules. At their behest, Secretary Cardona and his colleagues at last seem to acknowledge that the Department’s resources should be focused on helping students—not on selectively punishing schools and programs that they dislike.
“It’s time the Department of Education put an end to its Gainful Employment and Financial Transparency regulations—or apply them uniformly to all colleges and universities—and allow students to choose higher education options that are right for them.”
